The Magee Volunteer Fire Department is one of the top volunteer departments in the state of Mississippi…I would even say the USA! Not only do we have the top equipment and men for a town our size…we have fireman who care. These men care not only about putting out a fire, but the best way to achieve a goal that will help others.

For years, a problem of getting the “big” trucks onto an off road (field) is a huge problem. The truck can get stuck…and sometimes, the truck cannot even be driven close enough to the fire.

Through fundraisers by the firemen themselves and help from PriorityOne Bank (Fontaine McNair), Peoples Bank (Chris Dunn), Trustmark (James Smith), and Insurance Associates (Danny Mosley) the truck was purchased, outfitted, and painted! The fireman actually raised $40,000 to purchase the pre-owned Dodge 5500 truck. Local businesses took up the slack with the painting and equipping of the truck.

The reason for the acquisition of this truck is for the ability to provide an appropriate level of response for fires and other emergencies into remote wildland & agricultural areas, where normal fire apparatus access is generally restricted or prohibitive. The smaller until can deliver manpower and equipment to the remotest of areas in a timely manner and thus be more effective in combating or controlling these types of emergencies.

On behalf of the Magee Fire Department, Inc., Fire Chief Lane Steele presented the keys to the fire truck to the city hence making the truck property of the City of Magee.

The courtroom was filled with fireman for the presentation. Following the formal key presentation, the fireman and alderman went “out into the rain” to unveil the power truck!

Lane’s presentation plus the look on the firemen’s faces was priceless…the pride these men have…the pride Lane has in the men…and the pride the city has in having such an awesome group of men to protect our city.

I am still amazed that the men themselves raised this money…outstanding! Thank you for your dedication.
