Opal G. Whatley, 96 of Florence, Mississippi passed away from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Saturday, April 30, 2022, in Florence, Mississippi. She was born Saturday, October 10, 1925, in Cleveland, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home at 3077 Simpson Hwy 13, Mendenhall, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. The burial will follow in Harrisville Cemetery in Harrisville, Mississippi. Reverend Milton Whatley will officiate. Special music will be shared by Mrs. Cindy Whatley. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. 601-847-4401
Mrs. Opal was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, quilting, sitting outdoors, and most of all spending time with her loving family. She will be greatly missed by all of her loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Andrew Whatley, Sr.; father, Dalton Gordon; mother, Cora Bailey Matthews; one grandson, Ray Ferrell; three brothers, A.D. Gordon, Gene Gordan and Frank Gordan; one sister, Mildred Smith; and one daughter-in-law, Debbie Whatley.
Survivors include her two sons, Johnny Whatley of Florence, MS and Milton Whatley (Cindy) of Como, MS; one daughter, Lajuana Ferrell of Jackson, MS; four grandchildren, Christy Culbertson of Florence, MS, Andy Whatley (Allison) of Brandon, MS, Michelle Ferrell of Jackson, MS and Brian Ferrell of Utica, MS; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Raymond Gordan of Cleveland, MS; and a host of other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Andy Whatley, Brian Ferrell, Nicholas Young, Kenny Roberts, Billy Harvey, and Bryce Luchi.
The family requested in lieu of flowers for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society by going to cancer.org.
