Magee has two new streets. Well, the streets are not exactly “new,” they just don’t have a name. The street located by the new Magee Elementary will be called Education Avenue. The street located near the Tractor Supply will be called Tractor Supply Avenue. The action was taken at Tuesday nights Board of Alderman meeting.

Mrs. Veatrice McAlpin Gardner, 102, resident of Hillcrest died in her sleep Wednesday night. Mrs. Gardner was a jewel. Bless her heart she could not hear…but her mind was sharp as a tack. I can’t even imagine what this lady saw in her lifetime.

He’s home!!! That right, Brayden Booth, who was in a serious car accident several months ago, is back at home. The young man was prayed for by our entire community, state…and world! Brayden’s father, Brody, remains in the hospital in Meridian.

Prayers for Brenda Brooks Berry ,Tawesia Meador’s sister, who had a pacemaker implanted. Brenda had quite a scare with her health around Christmas..really, she is a walking miracle. Hopefully, the pacemaker will put her back on the road to good health.

Continued prayers for Mitzi Reed Hardy. Mitzi did not get a good report concerning the tumors in her brain. Mitzi is a 1998 Magee High School graduate. Her mother, Gloria Hughes, taught school at Magee for years. Her dad, Ray Reed, also lived and worked in Magee for years. Mitzi married about 3 weeks ago…and all of this illness is quite a shock for Mitzi and family. (More info to be posted)

Don’t miss the interview with Mayor-elect Dale Berry on the home page of MageeNews.com in the featured video spot. Dale has big plans for our city. One thing Dale told me, we have 33 non working fire hydrants! Getting these hydrants repaired and in working order is at the top of his list. Let me tell you, Dale has a list!!! Newly elected Alderman Whitney Baker has volunteered to created a FB page for the City of Magee. On that FB page as well as MageeNews site or FB page, one may post ideas as well as “situations” that exist in our city. The City of Magee FB page should be available in July. Posting on MageeNews web page and FB page may began at anytime.
The swearing in of the Mayor and Board of Alderman takes place on Friday, June 30th at 5 PM at the Civic Center. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Judge Gerald Martin will conduct the swearing-in ceremony.

Computers! Computers! Computers! My computer crashed Monday! I have been without a computer until today (Thursday.). I’m just saying, I’ve been lost! I can check things on my phone, but to work on MageeNews.com and the FB page, I just need a desk top. (Yes, I am old and like a keyboard!). But, I’m back!—still with working on an old computer so kind of crazy!

Don’t forget the City of Magee Farmer’s Market will be open Saturday from 9-1 in the “parking lot” next to the Magee Community House.

The Retirement Reception for Mayor Jimmy Clyde is Saturday, June 24th from 2-4 at the Civic Center. Everyone is invited! Bring a note expressing how much his 20 years of service as mayor and 22 years of service as City Clerk (42 total) has meant to you. A basket will be provided to drop your note and note cards will be available if you forget to come prepared!
