2018 Freshman will have new curriculum that is required for graduation. The School Board is in the process of completing the final requirements for the new graduation paths.

Now students who do not score high enough on their ACT placement part in Math and English will have the option to take a course while still in high school. If the student receives a passing grade of  80 are above that student will not have to take the remedial class while in college.

In January, the Simpson county district office will have a list available of the courses that students can choose from for each option. The Simpson county school district is going to try to have students take the appropriate courses as electives that will make them eligible for MS Scholars if they choose the Distinguished Academic option.

Today, students have the option of earning at least 4 credits in middle school before ever entering high school. Dual enrollment will still be available for students.  It is yet to be determined if the student will be responsible for price of the classes or if the district can absorb the cost in any way.  With budget cuts it is a matter that will have to be investigated.

Parents of incoming freshman be aware of the new changes, requirements and options. Make sure you meet with your counselor and know what path is best for your child.
