(September 24, 1947 – August 27, 2022)

Nell Williams Mathis, 74 of Mendenhall, Mississippi passed away from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Simpson General Hospital in Mendenhall, Mississippi. She was born Wednesday, September 24, 1947, in Gulfport, Mississippi.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Weathersby Baptist Church Cemetery in Mendenhall, Mississippi. Rev. Danny Powell will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031

Mrs. Nell was a member of Weathersby Baptist Church in Mendenhall, Mississippi.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend.  She enjoyed cooking, listening to music, working puzzles, and most of all spending time with her family and friends.  She will be greatly missed by all of her loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, James Paul Mathis; father, D.C. Williams; mother, Elsie Mae Williams; and brother, Roy Williams.

Survivors include her one son, James Mathis (Diane) of Braxton, MS; one daughter, Sandra Mathis Blackwell (David) of Richland, MS; three grandchildren, David Mathis (Mandi) of Waveland, MS, Rev. Dana Blackwell of Salem, IL and Jonathan Blackwell of Brandon, MS; two great grandchildren, Jonathan Mathis of Waveland, MS and Amaya Mathis of Waveland, MS one brother, Robert “Peter Rabbit” Williams (Ruby) of Mendenhall, MS; three sisters, Ann Williams Gardner of Knoxville, TN, Judy Williams of Knoxville, TN, and Bettye Williams Brown of Brandon, MS; and a host of other family members and friends.
