RIDGELAND, MISSISSIPPI – Today, over 1,000 students, teachers, school leaders, parents, elected officials, and friends gathered on the steps of the Mississippi State Capitol for Mississippi School Choice Day.

Schools and parents traveled from every corner of the state to be part of the gathering.

The crowd celebrated every educational option at today’s event. Students in traditional public schools, charter schools, private schools, special purpose schools, and homeschoolers were in attendance representing choice in Mississippi.

ESA dad John Wells (above) of D’Iberville spoke of his daughter’s educational success thanks to school choice. While celebrating his daughter Jalyn, John, surrounded by a crowd of ESA parents, called on legislators to vote to #SaveOurESA during the 2020 session.

We also heard from Midtown Public Charter School student Phoenix Hicks (above) who shared her love of learning at her school.

School leaders from all corners of the state traveled to Jackson to talk about the value of school choice in Mississippi. Dr. Tamala Boyd Shaw founder of Leflore Legacy Academy, a charter school set to open soon in Greenwood and Dr. Cena Holifield, founder of the 3-D school located in Petal and Ocean Springs addressed the crowd.

We also heard from Empower Mississippi President Grant Callen who thanked the crowd for attending to celebrate the many options that Mississippi has for its students while expressing a desire to see more students have the opportunity to participate in choice programs in the state.

Students and guests entered the State Capitol where they had an opportunity to talk with lawmakers and tour the building as the celebration drew to a close.
