This week is National Telecommunication Week.
We are glad to have such prompt and professional dispatcher’s working for the City of Magee and Simpson County Sheriff’s office.
These people are the first line of communication.
A dispatcher is a more than a radio operator. They must operate computers, to obtain information that includes everything from license and registration checks to giving officers descriptions of properties (through sat pics). They may be the point of contact with the public, not only on the phone, but with those who enter the station. They have to take calls from the public and prioritize (ie, which call should get emergency response, which can wait.), dispatchers have to be able to give emergency directions over the phone (CPR, Obstructed airways, etc) .
To sum it all up, dispatchers use the radio, only as a tool, their PRIMARY job is to obtain information through various means (phone, computer, radio, in person, etc) and get it to the people who need it the most.
Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication.
