This is National Police Week, and MageeNews.com would like to take the opportunity to express our gratitude for everything the Magee Police Department does for our community.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.

Each year, many law enforcement officers visit the nation’s capital to attend a variety of events to remember and honor fallen officers. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week recognizes law enforcement officers who have given their lives in the line of duty.
