hurricaneappNational Hurricane Preparedness Week is just around the corner, May 24-30!

It only takes one storm to change your life and community.  Tropical cyclones are among nature’s most powerful and destructive phenomena.  If you live in an area prone to tropical cyclones, you need to be prepared.  Even areas well away from the coastline can be threatened by dangerous flooding, destructive winds and tornadoes from these storms.  The National Hurricane Center issues watches, warnings, forecasts, and analyses of hazardous tropical weather.

What should you do to prepare for a hurricane?

Get a plan. The most important step is to know what to expect and be prepared for tropical storms.  You should always have a designated area for your family to evacuate to during a storm.  You should also have a communication plan in case your family gets separated during a storm.  A hurricane safety plan is designed to help secure the safety of you and your family.  Once you understand the significance and the safety tips of a hurricane, you should be better prepared for the deadly storm.
