STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State University’s distance program in civil engineering is ranked among the top 10 in the country for providing high value to students.

SR Education Group, an education research publisher founded in 2004, ranks MSU’s online master’s program in civil engineering No. 6 nationally for maintaining high academic standards and a commitment to affordability.

“The faculty in Civil and Environmental Engineering are dedicated to maintaining a rigorous graduate education program in seven technical areas of civil engineering: construction, environmental, geotechnical, materials, structures, transportation and water resources,” said Dennis Truax, civil and environmental engineering professor and department head in the James Worth Bagley College of Engineering.

“The same standards and expectations are maintained for all of the students in each of these areas of the graduate program, regardless of whether the student is on campus or part of the distance education program,” Truax added. “In this way, we assure that all students get a quality education which enhances their career, and the benefits to society that these graduate engineers provide. Our emphasis on a quality education is reflected by this national recognition.”

Distance programs in MSU’s Bagley College of Engineering are consistently ranked among the best nationally. In the 2018 U.S. News & World Report online rankings, the college ranks in the top 50 among online engineering programs. A recent survey among the Bagley College of Engineering’s distance students found 93 percent would recommend their degree programs to a friend or colleague.
