All week I have been posting snip-its of Kameron Durr and his preparation for the Ms Lions All State Band International competition in Las Vegas.

I am proud to announce the 2018 Mississippi Lions Band is once again International Champions.

The performance is attached for viewing.  Trust me take the time to watch well worth the two minutes.

Special Board Meeting of Simpson County School Board, Monday, April 27th, 5:30 PM

April 25, 2026

A lot of hard work and preparation goes into international competition.

Congratulations to these 145 band members that represent the state of Mississippi, and especially our very own Kameron Durr.

Mississippi Lions Band has been International Champions for 34 years. This marks six straight years International Champions and the 101st year of competition.

Lions Band is composed of the best of the best from the states local schools’ marching bands. Approximately 140 students are chosen for the band.

Young musicians must prove themselves in auditions every year. Success brings the opportunity to travel and make music with the best of the best and to play alongside young musicians they might not otherwise meet.

Each student must audition in front of a panel of judges. Call backs are made for a second round of auditions and then students are selected.

The band is under the direction of Jeff Cannon, Director/Manager and Mickey Mangum, Assistant Director/Manager.

This year the Lions band traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada for competition. Before leaving for competition the band held a week of training at Pearl River Community College.
