Mr. Cecil Herrington entered Heaven’s gates on Friday, January 6, 2017, at the age of 88.  He was born on July 10, 1928, a son of Willis Burnice and Willie Frances (Purcer) Herrington.

Mr. Herrington was in law enforcement all of his life and was the youngest sheriff ever elected into office.  He also served as the Chief of Police for the City of Magee.  He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Peggy Herrington; sons, Bernie Herrington, Dale Lee Herrington (Karen); daughter, Cecilia Waters; brother, Ted W. Herrington; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Hubert Wilson Herrington and Kelly Gene Herrington.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 8, 2017,  from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Siloam Baptist Church with a graveside service following in the church cemetery at 3:00 pm. Rev. Raymond Jeffcoat will officiate.

Arrangements are entrusted with Tutor Funeral Home of Magee.
