Mother was right!
How many of us worry about money? Money is wonderful (if we have enough), it’s necessary if we desire to eat and have shelter from the elements; we all need cars to get to work, etc.
But money is a cruel taskmaster!!! I was raised by great parents who never had an abundance of money. After Daddy died at age 50, leaving Mother a widow at 46, she struggled with the very modest income that she received each month. I remember discussing the financial hard times that some of our family and friends were experiencing and she made a remark that stuck with me. She said “Well, Brinda, God knows how much money to trust me with.” She talked about how she would probably make of fool of herself if she had too much money! Being the generous person that she was, I knew that she would give away all she had, as she was always giving more than she should out of her modest income. How much does God trust you? Can you be trusted with little or with much? Would money be a blessing or a curse?
Would you enjoy giving it away to those in need or would you live in fear of losing it? The scriptures have a lot to say about money.
“Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf.”
Proverbs 11:28
“Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist. When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven”
Proverbs 23:4-5
“He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this is also vanity.”
Ecclesiastes 5:10
