Before Friday Night, the Mize Bulldogs under the direction of Coach Matt Maddox had seen zero success against the Enterprise Clarke Bulldogs. The previous two years the hometown Bulldogs had been outscored 42-6, but Friday Night despite early turnovers it was clear the Mize Bulldogs were the better, more physical team. Mize soundly defeated the Enterprise Clarke Bulldogs 21-0.

The Bulldogs’ defense was lights out against Enterprise’s potent rushing offense. The defensive front dominated the game from the opening whistle. The defense was led by Tyson Barnes, Wyatt Davis, and Cam Hart. Enterprise did not even eclipse 100 yards of total offense. Defensive Coordinator Lance Lyon was proud of the defensive effort and said,”When I go to chart tackles, we may not have missed the first one.” That’s a good night on defense.

Offensively the Bulldogs drove the ball up and down the field throughout the first half, but sputtered inside the redzone. Penalties and turnovers were the story for the Bulldogs’ offense in the first half. However, the Bulldogs did find the endzone on the legs of Senior QB Talan Warren as he dashed 30 yards on a speed option. The Bulldogs missed multiple scoring opportunities in the first half, but remained on top 7-0 at the break. The second half saw the Bulldogs’ offense stay on the ground. The Dogs controlled the ball, the clock, and the scoreboard. The offensive line led by bookends Preston Wood and Redding Day paved the way for two long scoring drives. Kadin Lott’s 2 yard plunge was the dagger that put the game out of reach with 4 minutes remaining.

The Hill celebrated victory as the clock hit triple zeros. It’s a celebration that was short lived. Coach Maddox said, “It doesn’t get any easier next week, but we are ready for the opportunity.” Mize travels to Raleigh to play the defending 3A State Champs (now 2a). Kickoff is slated for 7 PM next Friday Night
