Mitchell Farms, located at 650 Leaf River Church Road in Collins, MS 39428, is a must see for young and old “children!”
On opening day, I took my grandson Hudson. We had a blast! The grounds are immaculate! The people are hospitable…and the food is delicious!
Hudson had fun at every activity from feeding goats to ridding the wagon to climbing everything in site.
The cost is $12 per person (2 and older). The admission gives each person a pumpkin to take home. Areas in the farms provide much needed shade and buildings that have fans and food!
If you are looking for a weekend activity for your child or grandchild, put this on the list.
Take a package of wet wipes, a few bottles of water (for sale on the grounds), and a plastic bag to store the rocks from the “mining” experience.
Food and drinks are for sale on the grounds.
Mitchell farms was started in 1960 by Dennis and Nelda. We have been growing row-crops since the beginning, got into peanuts in the 70s, began vegetables in the 80s and branched into Agritourism in 2006. Today we boast 1,500 acres, located deep in the piney woods of southeast Mississippi.
Visitors are invited to tour several authentic pioneer structures, including a log cabin built more than 100 years ago. Group tours and Special Events are welcome with reservations. You may also tour the play house, a brick outhouse, and our “new” cedar cabin, built following Hurricane Katrina.
Weekdays are “reserved” for tour groups. If you are interested in taking a group to Mitchell Farms, contact them on FaceBook for more info on tours and cost.
