JACKSON, MISS. – The Mississippi Transportation Commission (MTC) at its August 13 meeting awarded contracts for Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) maintenance projects throughout Mississippi.

There were three projects in the Southern District.

“These projects are important to help MDOT provide safe and reliable transportation for Mississippi drivers,” said Commissioner Tom King, Southern Transportation District.

The awarded contracts for the Southern District were: A $382,000 contract was awarded to McCraney Striping and Seal Coating, LLC, of Lucedale, for placement of raised pavement markers on various routes throughout District 6.

A $1.1 million contract was awarded to W.E. Blain and Sons, Inc., of Mount Olive, for a paving project of approximately four miles on State Route 13 from Bowen Road to East Street in Simpson County.

A contract for $842,143 was awarded to W.E. Blain and Sons, Inc., for an overlay of approximately three miles on State Route 35 from State Route 37 to State Route 18 in Raleigh in Smith County.

There were two projects in the Central District.

“Safety is always our main priority at MDOT,” said Commissioner Dick Hall, Central Transportation District.

The awarded contracts for the Central District were:

A $2.9 million contract was awarded to Gibson and Associates, Inc., of Balch Springs, Texas, for bridge preservation on U.S. Highway 80 over Cow Creek and Tallhatta Creek in Lauderdale County.

A $2.1 million contract was awarded to Key, LLC, of Madison, for bridge repairs on Interstate 20 over Lynch Creek in Hinds County. There were four projects in the Northern District. “These projects will significantly increase the safety and mobility throughout North Mississippi,” said Commissioner Mike Tagert, Northern Transportation District. The awarded contracts for the Northern District were:

A $1.8 million contract was awarded to Gibson and Associates, Inc., for bridge preservation on State Route 30 between County Road 121 and State Route 793 in Tishomingo County. A $242,900 contract was awarded to Key, LLC, for bridge repair on Interstate 55 in Carroll County.

A $426,730 contract was awarded to Key, LLC, for bridge preservation on U.S. Highway 45 and State Route 348 in Lee County.

A $1.6 million contract was awarded to Lehman-Roberts Company, of Memphis, Tenn., for a paving project of approximately four miles of State Route 178 from one mile west of U.S. Highway 78 to the Benton County line in Marshall County.

MDOT will release additional information regarding timelines and impacts to traffic prior to the start of construction. Highway work zones present new traffic patterns and configurations that may be unfamiliar to some motorists.
