Since Coach Mike Leach’s passing on December 12, tributes have poured in from all over the nation from players, former players, coaches, and the schools he has served at. Mississippi State University held a memorial service for Coach Leach Tuesday, with speakers such as Lincoln Riley (former QB at Texas Tech under Leach) and SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. On Thursday, the university released news of a tribute to Coach Leach, one that will be seen wherever the football team travels.
Every college football team has to have a way to transport equipment for players and band members. While the teams travel through the air or a bus, equipment is moved through large 18-wheelers decorated to their school’s style. On Thursday, in a joint venture through Mississippi State and KLLM Transport, the Mississippi State equipment truck has a new wrap on the trailer dedicated to Coach Leach.
Mike Leach will go down in history as one of the greatest college football coaches ever. Known for his innovative “Air Raid” offense and bright personality, Leach was not your typical football coach. When a football game was over, ESPN reporters would be found not asking Leach questions about the game but questioning him on topics such as his favorite candy, marriage advice, Bigfoot, and UFOs. Leach passed away on December 12 from complications of a heart condition at the age of 61.
The Bulldogs will play in the ReliaQuest Bowl against the Illinois Fighting Illini on January 2 under the leadership of new head coach Zach Arnett. The game will be televised from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL, at 11:00 am on ESPN2.
KLLM Transport provided the new wrap for the equipment truck.
