Mississippi Small Business Development Center has new business counselor

WESSON, Mississippi – The Mississippi Small Business Development Center (MS-SBDC) is excited to announce that Heather Emory is the new business counselor serving southwest Mississippi. A native of Franklin County, Emory no stranger to the area. She comes to the MS-SBDC after serving 20 years in higher education.

Emory joined the MS-SBDC in May 2020 as a contract counselor working with business owners dealing with COVID concerns. After extensive training, she joined the team as a full-time business counselor in October.  Emory brings to her position first-hand knowledge of the southwest Mississippi area, a keen understanding of the economic needs in the region and relationship building skills necessary to develop strong connections with local stakeholders, business owners and entrepreneurs.

“I am very proud to serve this area as the MS-SBDC Business Counselor,” said Emory. “It has been a long-time dream to see this area grow and thrive. I am excited to be a part of that process.”

Copiah-Lincoln Community College serves as the host institution for the southwest Mississippi office.

“Having a SBDC business counselor on our campus is a step in the right direction for our district,” said Co-Lin President Dr. Jane Hulon Sims. “Strong small businesses will help attract larger companies to this area. Co-Lin is committed to doing everything possible to see this area grow.”

“We are thrilled about our partnership with Co-Lin and the opportunity to bring Heather on board as a counselor,” said State Director for the Mississippi SBDC Sharon Nichols. “She is a great addition to our team and valuable asset for the businesses and entrepreneurs in southwest Mississippi.”

Since 1981, the Mississippi Small Business Development Center has served the entrepreneurs and small business owners of the Magnolia State. Our experienced business counselors offer one-on-one counseling, technical support and workshops designed to assist the small business communities in Mississippi. All counseling services and workshops are 100 percent confidential and no-charge.

Emory’s office is located at The Billy B. Thames Conference Center on the Co-Lin campus in Wesson. To request counseling or to sign up for a workshop, please visit our website www.mssbdc.org or call 662.832.3643.
