“MHSAA has been such a wonderful partner in our efforts to promote Mississippi’s college savings plans as a way to invest in your child’s future,” said Treasurer Fitch.  “The Savings Shootout is a great way to engage families in the options they have to not only pay for college, but even K12 tuition at private and religious schools.  And, with a total of $6,348 in scholarships being awarded, it’s a great way to kick-start those savings for 12 lucky families, too.”

During halftime at each of the twelve championship games, College Savings Mississippi will host a free-throw competition.  Two contestants will be randomly chosen from entrants who sign up at the College Savings table at the Coliseum for each game. Each participant will have 60 seconds to shoot as many free-throws as possible and the contestant with the highest number of shots made will win a $529 Mississippi Affordable College Savings (MACS) scholarship. Participants must be Mississippi residents and must be able to shoot a free throw at MHSAA Regulation goal height.

College Savings Mississippi is a division of the State Treasurer’s Office and operates the two State-sponsored 529 college savings plans, MACS and MPACT (Mississippi Prepaid Affordable College Tuition).  For more information about these plans and for official contest rules and registration information for the Savings Shootout, visit www.treasurerlynnfitch.com.
