Mississippi has one of the highest rates of new HIV cases each year, with African-American men being especially affected; their HIV rate is about seven times that of white men. Safe sex practices can prevent HIV, and there is now daily medication available that can prevent HIV in those who are sexually active and who have not yet been infected. If you do become infected with HIV, early treatment can control the disease and provide years of healthy life. Testing and early detection, especially in those who are at highest risk, is essential. MSDH’s smartphone app, Your PSH (Personal Sexual Health), is a free tool to help you locate confidential testing, prevent HIV, know your HIV risk, identify signs of the disease, and connect with treatment.
