The Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks has unanimously passed a resolution to honor Bill Finney Cossar for his outstanding commitment and service to the people of Mississippi and the conservation of the state’s natural resources.

Passed during the Commission’s regular meeting on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, this resolution recognizes Cossar’s lifelong dedication to public service and outdoor stewardship.

Born in Charleston, Mississippi to the Honorable George Payne Cossar and Finney Cossar, Bill Cossar has been deeply involved in community service and outdoor activities, such as hunting and fishing, from a young age. After graduating from the University of Mississippi, he had a successful career with Mississippi Power and Light, eventually becoming Vice President. He has also been active in civic organizations like the Rotary Club and the American Red Cross, and has served on various state commissions.

In recognition of his lifelong commitment to Mississippi’s outdoor heritage, Governor Phil Bryant appointed Cossar to the Mississippi Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks in 2014. He was reappointed in 2019, where he has served with distinction, including two years as Chairman. Over his ten-year tenure as a Commissioner, Cossar has demonstrated dedication, never missing a single regularly scheduled meeting.
The Commission’s resolution stands as a tribute to his service and commitment, ensuring that his efforts will continue to benefit the state for years to come.

The mission of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is to conserve and enhance Mississippi’s wildlife, fisheries, and parks; provide quality outdoor recreation, and engage the public in natural resource conservation.
