An educational tour of Central European cities including stops in Berlin, Warsaw, Krakow and Prague, will be led by two Mississippi College professors in June 2016.

A key part of the journey will take Mississippi travelers to visit the Nazi regime’s Auschwitz death camp, the largest German facility utilized during the Holocaust. Concentration camps were the site of the murders of six million Jews until the camps were liberated by the Allies towards the finals months of World War II in 1945.

This spring on the Clinton campus, MC psychology professor Michael Mann will teach the Psychology of the Holocaust. He anticipates some of his students will make the June 1-11 trip to Europe.

Mann, and philosophy professor John Meadors will accompany the students and others on the journey overseas.

Noteworthy stops on their trip in Berlin will include the Old Jewish Quarter, the Jewish Museum, Checkpoint Charlie and Berlin Wall.

At Mississippi College this spring, Meadors will teach the course “The Life and Thought of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.”

The trip will offer important insights about his classes.

Bonhoeffer served as a Protestant Lutheran pastor who was active in the German resistance to reject the policies of Hitler and Nazism. A native of Germany, Bonhoeffer founded a breakaway church and organized other Protestant churches to oppose the Nazi ideology. He was arrested and executed at the Flossian concentration camp on April 9, 1945. His death came during the last month of World War II.

Current Mississippi College students, other university supporters and people from the Jackson metro community are invited to sign up for the trip.

EF Tours, a leading travel company for college trips, is coordinating the journey in 2016.

The cost to travelers under age 30 is $3,930. The price is $4,200 for others.

The price includes all costs for airfare, expert guides, all breakfasts, some dinners, entrance fees to museums and all accommodations, Mann says.

The deadline to sign up will be February 27.
