Mississippi College placed 12 student-athletes on the 2017 Gulf South Conference FireSeeds All-Academic Teams, it was announced on Tuesday (June 13).
Women’s track & field (Kaleigh Akers, Anna Grace Govero, Kiana Grant and Andrea McDonald) led the way for MC with four selections, while men’s track & field (Luke Hodnett, Robert McMahon and Will Young) had three honorees. Baseball (Blaine Crim and Kyle Smith) and men’s tennis (Lucio Menezes and Joan Valy) had two selections, while softball (Katherine Lee) rounded out the honorees.
The Choctaws and Lady Choctaws had 79 student-athletes named to the GSC Spring Academic Honor Roll, giving them 191 total recognized during the 2016-17 academic year. Qualification for the Honor Roll is automatic based on at least a 3.00 grade-point average and does not require a voting process.
Overall, there were 794 student-athletes who earned this distinction, the most in conference history for the spring season.
Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC is recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
The athletic department sponsors 17 intercollegiate athletic programs: Baseball, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Football, Golf, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Softball, Men’s and Women’s Tennis, Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field, Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field and Volleyball.
