Magee First Baptist Church Family Life Center was the setting for the Magee’s Miss Hospitality Trunk Show Monday, July 15, 2019.

Magee’s 2018 Miss Hospitality, Carley May, served as MC for the evening.

Miss Hospitality, Ashlyn Johnston, entertained the ones in attendance with the wardrobe selection for the weeks competition.

Ashlyn will leave Sunday, July 21, 2019 for a week long of competition in Hattiesburg, MS leading up to Friday, July 26th and Saturday, July 27th performances and judging. The pageant marks the 70th Year of Competition. The events will take place at the Historic Saenger Theater in downtown Hattiesburg.

A week long of events are scheduled for the contests. There will be an autograph session at Turtle Creek Mall and other events the girls must attend, along with an interview process with the judges. One theme party the contests will attend is a “Breakfast at Tiffaney’s”. Ashlyn will wear a black romper with long black gloves to the event.

One-on-One interviews with the judges will take place Wednesday.  Each judge mets with  contestants for three (3) minutes. The pictured outfit is the one Ashlyn will be wearing during this event.

The Panel Interview is a five (5) minute session on Thursday during competition week. Direct, concise, and relevant questions ranging from world affairs, state and local politics, and information about Mississippi to personal ambitions, goals, and interests may be asked.

 

Each contestant will have 90 seconds to present an original speech based on the question “How would you promote our state to a visitor of Mississippi?”  Ashyln presented her speech during the trunk show which includes sign language.

During competition,  contestants will  present an original 20-second commercial on some important aspect of their city or county, promoting their hometowns to all in attendance. Contestants are to model a cocktail dress of their choice while presenting the commercial. Ashlyn dress of choice is pictured below.

During the Evening Gown Competition on Saturday night, the Top 10 will be asked an on-stage question by the emcees, which will be scored separately from the Evening Gown Competition. The evening gown Ashlyn will be wearing is pictured below.

The Mississippi Miss Hospitality Competition added a new element in 2018: Little Miss Hospitality. The Little Miss program is designed for Miss Hospitality contestants to serve as mentors to young ladies in their communities, who are ages 6-10 years old. Ashlyn chose Addi Caite Smith as her Little Miss Hospitality. Addi is the daughter of Scott and Cathy Smith.

Magee’s Miss Hospitality Directors are Kristi Ashmore and Ashley Jones.

Ashlyn is the daughter of Dan and Gwen Johnston of Magee. She is 2018 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor in Speech and Audiology. Ashlyn will further her Doctoral Education in Audiology this fall at the University of South Alabama.
