Simpson County has a familiar and well-respected face serving as the newly appointed Constable for Post 1 — Michael Evan “Evan” Sellers, a lifelong resident of the Magee and Simpson County area.
Evan attended Magee High School and later earned his GED in 2005. In addition to public service, he is a local business owner and has owned and operated S&S Construction since 2015, serving customers throughout the community.
Family has always been at the center of Evan’s life. He is the proud father of a 10-year-old daughter, Brooklyn, who attends Simpson Academy. Evan is the son of Michael Sellers, who worked for several years with the Mississippi Highway Patrol in dispatch, and Wanda Ladner. Both parents reside in Magee, making Evan a lifelong citizen of Simpson County.
He has two sisters, Whitney Hankins, who has four children, and Jamie Hayman, who has two children. Evan is affectionately known as “Uncle Bubba” to his nieces and nephews, and the entire family lives locally in Magee.
Evan’s grandparents are the late Gary Padgett, a retired Mississippi State Trooper, and Sonja Padgett, who still resides in the area and is lovingly known by the family as “Doe Doe.” Mr. Padgett passed away in 2018, and it was through him that Evan first developed a strong respect and appreciation for law enforcement and public service.
Evan brings approximately five years of law enforcement experience to the role of Constable, including the past two years serving under Simpson County Sheriff Paul Mullins. He has known Sheriff Mullins since childhood, and the two have remained friends for many years. Prior to his service in Simpson County, Evan also worked in Smith County earlier in his career.
Post 1 covers a large portion of Simpson County, including parts of Magee — primarily the Goodwater community through the Dry Creek area — as well as areas of Mendenhall, D’Lo, Braxton, and a small section of Harrisville around the Rexford Road area.
Community members describe Evan as kind, dependable, and always willing to help — qualities that reflect his strong desire to serve and protect the people of Simpson County. His appointment continues a family tradition of service and deep roots in the community he proudly calls home.
