JACKSON, Miss. —Mississippi High School Activities (MHSAA) board has announced the adding of a 7th classification for athletics. The vote was unanimous for adding the additional class.
The 7A classification will be added for the 2023-2024 school season. This is when the new realignments starts. The classes are based on school enrollment. The top 24 largest schools will be in class 7A. The next 24 top enrollment will be 6A and so on.
Classification 7A-5A will have 24 classes with 6 teams in 4 regions. Classes 4A-1A will have 40 schools with 5 teams and in 8 regions.
