Merchant Ship Ministries is a small organization in Magee, Mississippi with a big heart for women around the world.  Founded in 2011, MSM has been working with women in Kenya for more than 6 years, helping provide skills training, economic development and discipleship to women in need.

MSM partners with Kenyan-led organizations like Njoo Dada Trust, which runs a maternity rescue home for young girls in Nairobi, and Dorcas Creations, which teaches beadwork, sewing and financial skills to groups throughout East Africa.

This September, a group from Magee will travel to Nairobi to lead a retreat for the teen moms at the rescue home, as well as to lead Bible studies with women in the Dorcas Creations groups.  While there, MSM will work with individual artisans to plan next year’s line of products.  New merchandise will be available for purchase in time for the holidays this year!

Each purchase helps improve the lives of women and their families, and items include handcrafted jewelry, baskets and carved wooden spoons and bowls.

The Mkono (which means “hand”) line features beautiful handcrafted items from Africa and is perfect for unique gifts.

Materials include traditional brass beads and recycled glass, as well as traditional glass beads and natural stones.

The majority of the work Merchant Ship Ministries does is funded through the sale of products made by women in Kenya; however, as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, MSM welcomes your support.  If you would like to be part of the work with Njoo Dada in Nairobi this September, you can help provide items for the maternity home.  MSM is holding a baby shower for home, hoping to take items to Kenya next month.
