On Tuesday, May 1, 2018, Mendenhall Elementary School enjoyed a Book Character Dress-Up Day. This fun day was a huge success! The teachers and students came to school promoting their favorite book characters. We had a wide variety of books represented from Junie B. Jones, Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs, Sarah Plain and Tall, Color Clown, and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom to just name a few.
“We had a wonderful turnout from all our students. All were eager to tell me who their book character was!” says Tracey Crawford, Mendenhall’s Elementary Librarian, who’s dressed as Junie B. Jones Is Not a Crook. “It says a lot about our teachers when they don the craziest of outfits just for the happiness of their students. Reading is such a vital part of our world; children need to have a love and appreciation of the written word and where it can take them. Our children are the next authors and illustrators of the next generation.”
Mendenhall Elementary has hosted a Book Character Dress-Up Day in the past and looks to make this an annual event. In continuing with supporting Library Week and Children’s Book Week, the school library recently hosted a Scholastic Book Fair last week. Thanks to our parents and family who shopped at the book fair to share the wonder of reading!
Mrs. Traci Brown and Mrs. Pam Floyd had a Reading Carnival in their 1st grade classroom. Each of the students were cute as can be!
