Growing up as a child of the seventies we didn’t have Xbox , iPads , iPhones or even the internet. What we did have were albums, you know, the big black disc that you placed on a turntable at a speed of 33 1/3 rpm (revolutions per minute). My goal in life at this tender age was to save the money I earned from mowing lawns to purchase as many as I could. One of my first big purchases was “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” by Elton John.  This album was first released on October 5 , 1973. It produced several hit singles including: ” Bennie and the Jets ” , Candle In The Wind” , ” Saturday Night Is Alright For Fighting ” and the title track “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road “.  It is considered one of Elton’s greatest albums and his most recognizable piece of work. The album celebrated it’s 40th anniversary in 2013….. and yes , I still have that very copy that I purchased at the age of 13. You made think this is strange, but I can still sense the smell of a fresh cut lawn each time I play it. If you’ve never listened to this album, I encourage you to find a copy. It will take you back to a simpler time!
