Stephanie Lynn Nicks, more commonly known as Stevie is often referred to as the Queen of Rock. She is known for her outstanding vocals with the band Fleetwood Mac as well as with her own solo career.
Her most successful solo work was her 1981 album titled “Bella Donna “. The album included the rock classic “ Edge of Seventeen.”
Stevie was a huge fan of rock legend Tom Petty. The song “Edge of Seventeen “ is about Petty’s first wife Jane.
Once while talking with Jane, Stevie ask “ So how old were you when you and Tom first met? “ Jane replied back “ I was at the age of 17 .” But Jane was from Florida and due to her Southern drawl , what Stevie heard her say was “ I was at the edge of 17 . “
Stevie so admired Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers , that she wanted to join their group. She even said to her manager once to “ make it happen!” But that would have broken Tom’s rule of no girls in the Heartbreakers.
But when Stevie recorded “Stop Dragging My Heart Around “ with Tom Petty for the “Bella Donna “ album. It was stated that Tom told Stevie she could be an honorary Heartbreaker. The two artists had a long lasting friendship.
