Katherine McCarley – A Special Lady in My Life

Katherine McCarley – A Special Lady in My Life

September 1, 2025

When I first arrived in Magee, I was 19 years old, and I didn’t have any friends. To keep me busy and stay out of trouble, I was fortunate enough to get my first job at Dairy Queen. As time progressed, I became very proficient at my job, as I took immense pride in what I was doing personally and professionally. My goal was to make the best of my situation, and I showed up to work every day with a positive attitude and with the attitude to get something accomplished.

My Mom, Stacy Grim, who has a Master degree in psychology from William Carey University is the person who strongly encouraged me to attend Copiah-Lincoln community college in Simpson County. At first I was against attending Colin in Simpson county but she told me to just give it a try. Im very grateful I went because I met some of Some very cool people.

While attending Colin, I was determined to make the next step to pursue a 4-year college degree. At Colin, I made the President’s List multiple times while also working part-time. Eventually, my time came to end at Colin, and everything took off at a very fast pace

In 2020, I enlisted in the Mississippi National Guard, where I received an opportunity to get free college tuition. During my time in the military, I have racked up numerous awards, achievement medals, and even graduated top of my class. My tendency has always been not to get caught up in awards or accomplishments, but instead use them as motivation to keep going for bigger goals and have fun in the process. I am currently a student at Jackson State University majoring in Engineering. During my short time at Jackson State, I have made the President List and received High academic honors while balancing Military obligations, different clubs, and even volunteering at Jackson Public schools to let kids know you can do anything you put your mind to. I am also a member of the Jackson State ROTC program where I will commission as an officer in the Mississippi National Guard upon graduation. Jackson State ROTC has developed me as a better leader and given me a strong platform to excel to new heights.

I have recently been offered an exciting new job opportunity as a Production Engineer Intern at Continental Tire located in Clinton, MS. I was more than thrilled because this is my first time working for a major international company. when they told me I was selected for the job, I literally stayed up all night running around my room from excitement. This opportunity at Continental means the world to me, because they are a multi-international company with great facilities that gives me the opportunity to learn and grow tremendously. Before I landed multi Job offers from company’s all across the US and several in the state of Mississippi. I was interning as a Quality Engineer at Architectural Mailboxes located in Taylorsville, MS. I enjoyed working there because I saw that the employees enjoyed having me around and I always tried my best to show the employees I really cared and that they could talk to me openly about, it was great having the experience working under my Dad before I really entered the work force.

My advice to any young adult or teenager is to believe in yourself, and don’t let your situation determine where you wanna go. This is your life, and you can do anything you put your mind to. Stay away from negative people and bad influences, and focus on creating who you want to be in the future. I’m learning that a lot of stuff in life is temporary, so live every day like it’s your last. Finally, my last bit is advice is never forget to have fun, always remain positive, always be aware of your Mental Health, never be afraid to seek help, and always remember you are not alone.
