At the May 2, 2023 City of Magee Board of Aldermen meeting, the board approved the medical cannabis ordinances for the city.

The majority of the cannabis rules are set by the Mississippi Department of Health and Mississippi Department of Revenue.

Cannabis businesses will follow zoning restrictions, sign ordinances, and all requirements of federal, state, and local laws.

Mayor Dale Berry called the meeting to order.  The Mayor led in prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

The following Board members were present:  Ward 2 Matthew Hickman, Ward 3 Mark Grubbs, Ward 4 Patrick Brown, and Alderman at Large Sue Honea.  Ward 1 alderman Lane Steele was not in attendance.

Gaye Magee Sullivan appeared before the board concerning the counties bicentennial in 2024.  Work has begun on plans for the event.  David Massey presented additional information on plans for the program.  The committee has requested $1,000 from the city.  The aldermen tabled the matter and will vote at a later date.

Merika Kalman, owner of the Vault Eatery & Drinkery, requested permission to close some streets near the Vault for a Centennial Celebration of the building turning 100 years old.  Plans for a crawfish boil and live music will take place during the event beginning at 5.  A fireworks show will begin at dark near the 5 way stop. Mrs. Kalman requested patrons be allowed to have open containers outside the building. The Board is taking the request under advisement.

Zoning director Penny Aguirre presented the ordinances for the Medical Cannabis laws for the city of Magee. A motion was made and seconded to accept the proposed ordinances.  The motion carried.  Penny explained a desire for our city to join MS Main Street Association.  According to Penny, “the benefits for our city through this program are worth the $500 cost.”  The board approved joining Ms Main Street Association.
