JACKSON, MISS. – The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) has named Assistant State Maintenance Engineer Matt Dugas, P.E., to the position of State Maintenance Engineer. Dugas has served MDOT for more than 18 years.

Matt Dugas, P.E., received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Mississippi State University in 2006. Upon graduation, he accepted a position as an engineer-in-training in MDOT’s Mendenhall Project Office. He transferred to MDOT’s District 7 headquarters in 2010 and became the District’s Assistant Maintenance Engineer. In 2019, Dugas was promoted to District 7 Maintenance Engineer where he oversaw maintenance operations in the southwest portion of the state. After five years in this role, he transferred to MDOT headquarters and became the Assistant State Maintenance Engineer.

As the State Maintenance Engineer, Dugas will oversee MDOT’s maintenance division and support routine maintenance operations statewide as well as emergency response and communication. He was first named Interim State Maintenance Engineer in November 2024 and was officially promoted on February 1.
