MDOT makes progress on southwest Mississippi projects

MCCOMB, MISS. – Commissioner Tom King, Southern Transportation District, has announced updates to several Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) projects in southwest Mississippi.

“Thanks to a busy construction season and favorable weather, quite a few infrastructure projects are making headway, and several are wrapping up in the southwest region of the state,” said Commissioner Tom King. “Increased funding has led to major progress in infrastructure improvements with projects taking place in virtually every part of the state.”

Bridge replacement on State Route 149 is ongoing in Simpson County

A project is underway to replace three bridges on State Route 149 in Simpson County. The Sellers Creek Bridge (Bridge No. 128.6), the Dabbs Creek Bridge (Bridge No. 131.7) and the Dabbs Creek Relief Box Bridge on SR 149 are being replaced and are closed while the project is underway.

The Seller’s Creek Bridge has been demolished and borrow material is being placed at the site. Clearing and grubbing is complete. Subgrade has been placed at one of the sites on the Dabbs Creek bridge. Test piles have been driven for both bridges.

This $25 million contract was awarded to T.L. Wallace of Columbia and Phase I of the project is expected to wrap up in summer 2024. Phase II will involve the replacement of the Strong River Bridge and will begin after Phase I is complete.

Overlay, intersection improvements continue on U.S. 49 in Simpson County

A $17.2 million project to overlay 10 miles of U.S. 49 from Magee to Mendenhall and to make intersection improvements on U.S. 49 from Goodwater Rd. to First Ave. is progressing. The contractor is paving frontage roads, shoulders and turn lanes.

The contract was awarded to APAC – Mississippi, Inc. of Richland and is expected to be completed in summer 2024.

Mill, overlay project now complete on U.S. 61 in Adams County

A project to mill and overlay approximately 8 miles of U.S. 61 from Kingston to St. Catherine Creek in Adams County is now complete. This $8.5 million contract was awarded to APAC.

Overlay on U.S. 98 in Walthall County underway

An overlay project is underway on 5 miles of U.S. 98 from Industrial Park Rd. to Old Highway 98 East. Work on traffic signals is complete. Scrub seal is complete and mainline paving is underway.

The $5.2 million contract was awarded to Dickerson & Bowen, Inc. of Brookhaven and is expected to be completed fall 2023.

Mill, overlay of U.S. 84 now underway in Adams County

A mill and overlay project on approximately 5 miles of U.S. 84 from U.S. 61 to Dunbarton Rd. to is underway. All mainline paving has been completed, and the contractor is currently placing final stripe.

This nearly $5 million contract was awarded to APAC and is expected to be completed fall 2023.

Mill, overlay of State Route 149 now complete in Simpson County

A $4.7 million project to mill and overlay approximately 11 miles of State Route 149 from Mendenhall to north of Braxton in Simpson County is now complete. This project was awarded to APAC.

Overlay complete on State Route 35 in Simpson County

A $3.6 million overlay project is now complete in Simpson County to pave approximately 10 miles of State Route 35 from U.S. 84 to U.S. 49. The project was awarded to APAC.

Mill and overlay underway on State Route 24 in Amite County

A $3.5 million project is underway in Amite County to mill and overlay State Route 24 from the west city limits of Liberty to just west of Velma St. Milling, undersealing and drainage work is complete as well as joint repair. Paving is taking place in the project area.

This contract was awarded to Dickerson and Bowen, Inc. and is expected to be complete fall 2023.

Mill and overlay underway on U.S. 84 in Lincoln County

A project is underway in Lincoln County to mill and overlay the paved shoulders, local roads and crossovers of approximately 5 miles of U.S. 84 from U.S. 51 to Monticello St. NE. Concrete work has been completed.

This $2.9 million project was awarded to Dickerson and Bowen, Inc. and is expected to be completed in fall 2023.

Slide, erosion repairs nearing completion U.S. 61 in Adams County

Slide and erosion repairs are nearing completion on U.S. 61 approximately 0.9 miles north of Kingston Rd. in Adams County. Major work items are complete with slope dressing and regrassing underway. All lanes are now open to traffic within the project area.

This $2.9 million contract was awarded to Dozer, LLC of Natchez and is expected to be completed in fall 2023.

Overlay underway on State Route 149 in Simpson County

A $2.5 million overlay project is underway in Simpson County to pave approximately 6 miles of State Route 149 from Industrial Park Dr. to Athens Rd. Pre-leveling operations are complete, and paving is taking place in crossovers and driveways.

The contract was awarded to APAC and is expected to be complete winter 2023.

Mill, overlay project on State Route 43 now complete in Lawrence County
 

A mill and overlay project is now complete on State Route 43 in Lawrence County from the Jefferson Davis County line to County Road 43A. This $2.2 million project was awarded to Dickerson & Bowen, Inc.

Widening and overlay underway on State Route 28 in Simpson County

A $1.9 million project is underway in Simpson County to widen and overlay approximately 4 miles of State Route 28 from SR 149 in Magee to the Smith County line. Scrub seal and widening is complete and the contractor has begun mainline paving.

This project was awarded to APAC and is expected to be complete in summer 2024.

Slide, erosion repairs nearing completion on U.S. 61 in Wilkinson County
A project is nearing completion to repair a slide on U.S. 61 in Wilkinson County approximately 0.3 miles north of the intersection of U.S. 61 and Cold Springs Rd. Work at site 1 is complete. At site 2, pipe placement is complete and the embankment is being filled.

The $1.3 million project was awarded to Midway Construction of Roxie and is expected to be completed in fall 2023.
