Macy McKinney and Jordan Magee were honored with scholarships during the regular scheduled Simpson County Board of Supervisors meeting Monday, May 17, 2021.

Jordan is a Student at Magee High School and McKinney is a student at Mendenhall High School. The scholarship is  $500 and awarded by the Simpson County Mississippi Association of Supervisors.

Cynthia Johnson and Wallace Willis met before the board voicing concerns over roads needing attention in their district.  The Supervisors advised plans were to remill the roads this springs. Due to someone purchasing the rented equipment, the project has been delayed until fall. (Simpson County was renting equipment from a dealership.  The dealership sold the equipment)  The roads in question will be address at that time. Road manager Ben Warren advised the county has received 34 1/2 inches of ran in only 4 months. The county average for the year is 55 inches. Rain plays a large impact on the roads. Supervisor Donny Welch chimed in that the freeze in the late winter had a large impact on the roads staying below freezing for over 100 hours straight. Warren advised all roads in the county could use some form of help.

John Kilpatrick EMC for the county reported there had been a total of 19  911 address and 5 house permits acquired. The board approved for cell tower permits to be sold at the same time as the 911 address. The board voted to NOT extend the $5.00 permit charge for building updates in the county.

Killpatrick advised a total of 1521 911 calls were received for the previous month. Last year the county experienced 1349. The county received a total of 9 combined calls for structural fire or vehicle fires.

EMS received 324 ASAP calls. The average response time was 14 minutes and 32 seconds.

Sheriff Paul Mullins received permission to apply for the JAG Grant. The board approved the OMNIGO software renewal in the amount of $15,076.92.

The board approved moving Derek Rosado from part-time to full time, and Meghan Rhodes from Corporal to Sergeant.

The board approved the lowest quotation of Powell Construction in the amount of $8,400 for repairing roofs at the voting precincts at Dry Creek, Merit, and Shivers.

The board approved, if necessary, to open a bank account for the federal funds that have been approved for each county.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
