McCain Joins Children’s Center at Southern Miss as Communications Coordinator

Samantha McCain, APR, recently joined The Children’s Center for Communication and Development at The University of Southern Mississippi as the new communications coordinator.

McCain, a resident of Hattiesburg, has extensive experience in strategic planning and tactical implementation with a variety of industries. Prior to joining The Children’s Center, she was employed with The Focus Group as the public relations and content manager, where she managed strategic communication plans and content messaging for a variety of clients.

McCain’s background also includes managing advertising buys, layout and design for collateral materials, digital strategies, video production, and brand management for Hattiesburg Clinic’s 300-plus providers and 60-plus departments. Additional career highlights include working with an international nonprofit and the federal government.

In her role with The Children’s Center, her primary responsibilities will include amplifying the story of the Center through strategic communication methods, event coordination and promotion, donor relations, grant writing and overseeing the development of communication materials.

“The Children’s Center has a unique story to tell and to be a part of that is something special,” said McCain who graduated from Southern Miss in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism with an emphasis in public relations. “It took only one visit to the Center to know that I had an opportunity to make a difference, and I’m more than grateful that my career path led me here.”

“Samantha’s experience in the realm of public relations is widely known and respected by her peers and university colleagues. Her energy and enthusiasm to dive deeper into what makes the Center a special place is a breath of fresh air,” said Executive Director Sarah Case-Price, M.S.,CCC-SLP. “We have a fantastic team of specialists specific to their fields of study and Samantha is an added benefit that will help the Center to grow more in years to come.”

McCain’s investment in her community and state extends itself to the many organizations she serves, including the Public Relations Association of Mississippi State Board of Directors; Pine Belt Young Professionals Planning Committee; See Spot Run: A Dog Park for Hattiesburg’s Neighborhoods; The University of Southern Mississippi Alumni Publications Board; Historic Hattiesburg’s Downtown Association; Leadership Pine Belt Steering Committee; and the Mississippi Run to Remember 5K – a run created to remember and honor law enforcement officers across the state.
