The City of Magee has been awarded a grant from DFA appropriations bill in the amount of $250,000. The money is to be used for water and sewer upgrades. The news came as a BIG SURPRISE during the board meeting Tuesday, April 2, 2019. Senator Chris Caughman brought the grant to the attention of Mayor Dale Berry earlier this year. According to Berry, the money will be earmarked for the sewage lagoon.
The city is looking at replacing and installing LED lights through Entergy for lights located on the highway from McDonald’s to the bridge at turnoff for the Sportsplex. Replacing lights will help save on the monthly electric bill.
The splash pad located at the Sportsplex has been repaired and ready for a trial run. The City is entertaining the decision to develop the 7 acres that was donated by Tyson’s as additional parking. The tournaments that the city host on weekends creates problems with not enough parking. A plan of action will be made and brought before the board at a later meeting. An Easter Egg hunt, sponsored by First Baptist church Magee, will be held at the Sportsplex, April 20, 2019. An additional egg hunt is scheduled on April 20th at the city park sponsored by New Century.
During last board meeting, approval was given to purchase two iPads. The approved iPads were not available for viewing at the last board meeting. A motion to rescind the previous approval was made and approved and a new motion was made to purchase two new iPad with 256 GigaBytes of memory for a price of $833.00.
Mayor Dale Berry signed a proclamation observing National Library Week in Magee as April 7-13th.
Mayor Berry reminded everyone Saturday , April 6, is McNair Springs Clean Up Day. Volunteers are welcomed for cleanup. Berry recognized May 2, 2019 as National Day of Prayer.
The board approved to close 11th Ave at Rankin Street on April 6, 2019 from 8:00 am until 8:00 pm for New Century Lodge.
With no further business, the meeting was recessed until April 16, 2019.
