Mass Communication and Journalism Workshop for High School Students Oct. 1
The University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Mass Communication and Journalism will hold a workshop for high school students Thursday, Oct. 1 on the Hattiesburg campus, sponsored by the Mississippi Scholastic Press Association (MSPA).
High school students who wish to pursue a career in broadcast journalism, photojournalism, graphic design or any related field will gain hands-on experience during this one-day event. Sessions will consist of social media, news writing, graphic design, photography, feature writing and broadcast. Southern Miss faculty will lead each of the sessions, and students will have the opportunity to attend two in-depth sessions.
This year’s theme, “Straight to the Source,” will be highlighted by keynote speaker Malary Pullen, a recent Southern Miss graduate and award-winning multimedia journalist from Jackson’s WJTV News Channel 12.
The cost, including a continental breakfast and lunch, will be $20 for students and $10 for additional advisors and chaperones.
