Mary Kathleen Harvey Stephens went to be with her Lord, on Sunday, February 21, 2016, at the age of 89, after a brief illness.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2016, at Mendenhall First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in Mendenhall City Cemetery.
She graduated from Perkinston Junior College and worked as a bookkeeper with Broadhead’s Lumber Company then later at the Federal Land Bank.
In 1948, she married Lloyd Franklin Stephens, Jr. and they made their home in Mendenhall. Together, they managed Stephens Mercantile Company and Lloyd’s Style Shop for 65 years. In 1970, she opened a Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio inside their business. She was a licensed Bridal Consultant, as well as an emcee for many fashion shows for the community and Simpson General Hospital.
She was an active member of Mendenhall First Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities: Sunday School, Training Union Teacher, Choir Member, Pastor Search Committee and various other committees.
She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Lloyd Franklin Stephens, Jr.; three daughters, Karen Milling, Christy Rotenberry, Mary Louise “Lulu” King (Hal); four grandchildren, Jenni Grantham (Jonathan), Rebecca Kathleen Rotenberry, Natalie Rotenberry, Matthew Stephen King; one great grandchild, Jefferson Grantham; two sisters, Barbara Stubbs and Sue Barr.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Joseph Harvey and Mary Louise (Weathersby).
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Tutor Funeral Home of Mendenhall.
