Mary Elizabeth McKenzie
(April 14, 1942 – October 4, 2021)
Our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Mary Elizabeth McKenzie (Canady), age 79, left this world on October 4, 2021 to be with her Heavenly Father. She was born on April 14, 1942 in Benoit, MS to Ethel Delvene Grimes and Henry Canady.
She worked as a Horticulturist at the MS State Hospital in Whitfield, MS doing what she loved until retirement. She was a member of Siloam Baptist Church in Magee, MS.
She had a great passion for gardening and loved to work and be outside where she maintained her many flower gardens. She enjoyed sewing and made beautifully hand stitched quilts. She was a go-getter, energetic, and loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed showing her kids and grandkids up in a game of volleyball.
Her embodiment of strength and perseverance is her lasting legacy and will be a guide to those who loved her and for future generations. The people’s lives she touched are plentiful, but she will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered most by her family. Among those left to remember her are her son, Johnny Franklin (MaryJane) McKenzie, and three daughters, Mary Elizabeth (Mike) Herrin, Sarah Jane (Mark) Yates, and Lora Leigh (Richard) Bodker; 11 grandchildren, Elisa McKenzie, Sharon Elizabeth Roberts, John Curtis Yates, Jeffery Ollis (Erin) Roberts, Johnathan Mark (Jordan) Yates, Kathryn Marie McKenzie, Shelley Jane (Chase) Holifield, Keipher Thomas (Abigail) McKenzie, Candace Leigh (Richard) Morea, Michael Alexander McKenzie, and Wyatt Douglas Bodker; and nine great grandchildren, Travis Mason Roberts, Eliza Jane Roberts, Hayden McKenzie Young, Penelope Jane Holifield, Spencer Scott Roberts, Brady Paul Yates, Baker Mark Yates, Sawyer Elizabeth Yates, and Silas Alexander McKenzie.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021 from 5-9 at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee, MS and funeral services will be Friday, October 8, 2021 at 10:00 at Siloam Baptist Church followed by graveside service at Siloam Baptist Church.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Villa South Assisted Living in Florence, MS for their care and compassion.
