Martha Dale Rushing Barrett, 82, passed away peacefully at Baptist Memorial Hospital on Saturday, November 6, 2021. Martha was born in Tishomingo County, MS on May 4, 1939. She was the youngest child of the late Quay Strickland and Kermit Lee Rushing. Martha graduated from Iuka High School. She attended the University of Mississippi where she graduated from the School of Commerce and was a founding member of Alpha Omicron Pi.

Martha thoroughly enjoyed her life with her family and friends. She enjoyed baking her famous pound cake and pies, and hosting others. She touched many lives with her calming compassion in her 82 years on this earth. She loved her community, her Sunday school class at First Baptist Church of Mendenhall, and the many customers she served in the Mendenhall Drug Company store that she and Frank owned for nearly fifty years.

Martha was a loving wife to her husband, Frank, of 51 years; a loving mother to Andy Barrett, John (Pamela) Barrett, and Amy (Michael) Lee; a loving “Nana” or “Nonnie” to grandchildren: Barrett, Brooke, Maya, Rachel, Anna, Kody, Lauren, Andrew, and Lion; a loving sister to Kathy (Rusty) Sykes and Joy Foster Harris; and a loving best friend to her cousin Barbara Rushing Sweeney. Martha was a special relative to numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Weldon Barrett, her parents, Kermit Rushing and Quay Strickland Rushing; brother, Kermit Rushing, Jr.; and grandson, Kody Bos.
