The District Attorney’s Office presented evidence during the trial that proved Hicks was in possession of a stolen eighteen-wheeler. Testimony revealed that Simpson County Sherriff’s Department investigators went to Hicks’ residence on April 17, 2015, to serve an arrest warrant for an unrelated matter. The investigators became suspicious of Hicks when he provided a false name during questioning. Adding to their suspicions, a Louisiana company name was painted on the side of the truck. The truck required “hot-wiring” to start the engine.

The Jury deliberated and found Hick’s guilty.

The District Attorney’s Office sought to punish Hicks as a habitual offender due to his previous felony convictions. The Court agreed and sentenced Hicks to serve the maximum five-year sentence, day-for-day.

District Attorney Matt Sullivan said: “Investigators Bryan Buckley and Joe Andrews did an exemplary job beginning with their discovery of the crime to their final testimony at trial. Assistant District Attorney Chris Hennis also exhibited professionalism and skill in the prosecution. This case is a great example of your prosecutors and law enforcement officers working together to successfully to uphold the law.”
