Marion Monroe Dollar, 82, of Taylorsville, Mississippi, passed away from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He was born Tuesday, April 18, 1939, in Mize, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Taylorsville, Mississippi.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 16, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church. The burial will follow at Rose Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Mize, Mississippi, with military rites. Dr. Frankie Clark will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements. (601) 785-6564
Mr. Marion was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Taylorsville, Mississippi. He had a passion for Bible studies and taught the Fellowship Class at the First Baptist Church for many years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He served our country for twenty-two years in the United States Navy. He continued serving his country as a civilian for another twenty years at Texas Instruments where he managed a team of Quality Engineers working in the defense industry. While working full time, he completed his Bachelor’s and Master of Business Administration degrees with honors. He enjoyed spending time on the golf course and teaching his grandchildren about life. After retiring to Mississippi, he wrote and published a book called “Stories from Liars, Friends, and the Innocent.” He also wrote a weekly column for the Taylorsville Post and the Smith County Reformer. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Monroe Dollar and Dora Ladona Hughes Dollar.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-two years, Shirley Sue Sellers Dollar of Taylorsville; one daughter, Marilyn Annette Dollar and son-in-law, James McGing, of Chicago, IL; two grandchildren, Taylor Dollar Eitniear of Chicago, IL, and Clayton Maxwell Eitniear of Chicago, IL; one brother, Johnny David Dollar, Sr. and sister-in-law, Betty Ann, of Taylorsville; two sisters, Lyndell Cockrell of Magee, and Joann Dollar Gay of Arizona; and a host of other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be James McGing, Taylor Eitniear, Clay Eitniear, Robert Hill, Jason Hill, and Johnny Dollar, Jr. Honorary pallbeares will be Claude Dowden, Charlie White, Larry Robinson, Ken Odell, Benton Sullivan, Harry Cassell, Len Scott, and Glenn Bond.
