Dear Citizens of Magee,
Our community continues to see the trend of marijuana seizures laced with methamphetamine and fentanyl. Drug dealers often mix these substances to create a stronger addiction, trapping users into lifelong dependency. The danger lies in the fact that both meth and fentanyl are highly addictive and deadly, regardless of whether they are injected, smoked, or snorted.
Far too often, individuals experiencing drug induced symptoms are mistakenly labeled as having mental health disorders. While mental health is a serious issue, many of the behaviors attributed to it stem from substance abuse rather than a genuine psychological condition.
While marijuana remains illegal in our state, it is not the direct cause of individuals losing control of their lives. The real threat comes from drug dealers who lace marijuana with dangerous substances, leading users down a path toward meth, fentanyl, and other highly addictive drugs. These dealers have one goal: profit. They do not care about your well being or the impact their actions have on your family and community.
If you are struggling with substance use, I urge you to seek help and stop before it’s too late. If you have never used drugs, do not allow peer pressure or circumstances to lead you down that path. It only takes one time for your life to change forever.
Parents, teach your children the power of saying “no.” This simple word can protect them from addiction and keep them out of harm’s way. We are seeing more and more individuals living on the streets, often mislabeled as having mental health disorders when, in reality, their struggles began with substance abuse.
In my professional opinion, the true crisis we face is a drug epidemic, and it will not end unless individuals take control of their own choices and reject recreational drug use. If you require marijuana for medical purposes, obtaining it through legal, regulated sources is the safest option to ensure you are not unknowingly consuming harmful substances.
The Magee Police Department will continue to do our job, but ultimately, it is up to you to make the choices that prevent addiction and save lives. Let’s work together to protect our community and our future.
Chief Denis J. Borges
