City-Wide Worship Friday Night

July 14, 2026

I’ve followed Woody’s career…knew he was an awesome player…but everyone kept saying “he is such a fine person.”  Well, Saturday I got to see for myself.

I don’t think I’ve ever spoken with a humbler “star.”  This “huge” gentle giant processes as much character as talent.  I am honored he finally allowed me to interview him!

I’ve been after Woody for several years to “let me do an interview.”  He would always smile and say maybe someday…well the day finally came.

Former teachers, coaches, and players were present for a little Woody time.  …and Woody gave everyone his time…he did not slight anyone.

Mrs. Betty Magee, his senior English teacher from Raleigh, came to wish her student well. Members of the Magee Touchdown Club were in attendance…..and bunches of fans!

I’ve got to warn you…the tears ran down my face during the first interview I did with Woody….and I was not expecting that…but looking into his eyes and seeing the true spirit of caring for his fellowman and the commitment he has to family and friends…well, ya’ll…the feelings were deep.

Keep Woody in your prayers as he marches forward.  There are five tryouts to actually make the team (and everyone “tries out”).  The first competition is in late July…so as much as I hate to say this…I hope we don’t see you in Mississippi for a long time!

Blessings on you and your family…thank you for being the man and example you are to others….and thank you for caring for others….you are truly making the most of everyday of your life.

Woody’s wife is Empress and sons are Kheden and Khyson.

The gathering was held at the home of Allison and Dennis Burch.

Thank you for the memories…..

Watch the videos…they are worth your time. (I may put videos on another page because I have so many wonderful picture…but everything will be under Happenings/Out and About  and Sports.
