I have been approached several times about the height and size of the Magnolia trees on Main Street.

This Magnolia tree is located in front of Stubbs Law Firm who has said nothing about the height of the trees…I just took this picture for myself!

If you have not noticed the trees, take a drag down Main.  Located just beyond  the sidewalk area up and down the street are beautiful Magnolia trees.  Trees that now cause a problem for some of the businesses on Main Street.  Sometimes, it is difficult to see a business for the trees.  But, ya’ll, I love trees and can’t see cutting down something so beautiful.

Friday, I interviewed Alderwoman Whitney Baker.  I am in the process of filming a MageeNews.com segment called 2020!  I am talking with local and county officials about their goals for 2020.  I have posted the first filming which is of Dale Berry.  (Check it out)

Anyway, back to Whitney!  Whitney and I talked about the Magnolias on Main!  We both agreed they are beautiful …but a problem.  Whitney explained that if we would stop trimming the trees and let them grow up similar to the ones in front of First Baptist Church, they would look great on Main.

These trees in front of FBC are growing tall…this is what we need on Main Street
Sorry about my sun drenched picture!….but I am happy to see that sunshine!

What this means is no timing for several months or maybe a few years.  Each time the trees are trimmed they “bush out” instead of growing up.  We need the trees to grow up!

I took a drive down Main and found several trees that have not been trimmed and they are looking good…straight and tall.

I think we should try “no cut”!  Let’s see what happens.  I think everyone wants a beautiful Main Street.  The Magnolias are an addition to the beauty of the street.

Have patience while we work on this project.  This is not a quick fix and probably we’ll all get discouraged at times…but I think the finished product will be worth the growing pains!
