While conducting a safety check point at Hwy 149 & 13th Street Friday afternoon, March 27th, 2015, Magee Police Officer Joey Shows observed a silver sedan approaching the check-point, at which time, the sedan then made a u-turn, appearing to avoid authorities, local officials reported.
Officer Shows, with assistance of Officer Landon Ates, Officer William Douglas, DUI Officer Shane Fewell, and Lt Joey Womack, subsequently initiated a traffic stop. The driver of the sedan was then identified as Amanda Collins, of Magee, MS, who was discovered to be driving with a suspended license.
After officers obtained consent to search the sedan, Collins was asked to step out of the vehicle, at which time, Officer Shows observed a plastic bag in Collin’s right hand, that she was attempted to conceal from officers, reported authorities.
Officers then recovered the plastic bag and determined it to contain approximately 13 grams of crack cocaine.
Collins was then placed under arrest and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance; with intent to distribute cocaine, within 1500 feet of a school.
Collins later posted a $25,000 bond.
Magee Police Chief Randy Crawford stated “Officer Show’s keen observance and exemplary police work played a major roll in effort to eliminate drugs on our city streets.” ” The diligent work from these officers is commendable,” Chief Crawford also reported.
