Jacob Bachtel of Magee has achieved Boy Scouts highest rank: EAGLE SCOUT.
Jacob is the grandson of William and Susan Malley of Magee.
He is a member of Boy Scout Troop 81, which is led by Rhuel Dickinson and sponsored by Bethany & D’Lo United Methodist Churches and Peoples Bank.
The final step in the process was his Eagle project, which involved pressure washing the church, stripping and painting the entry door to Cornerstone Family Worship Center. With the help of fellow scouters, they also trimmed and landscaped the flower beds. They also assisted in installing a new stove that was purchased by the church. The Board of Review was completed February 7, 2017.
Family, friends and the Boy Scouts of Troop 81 gathered April 23, 2017 to honor Jacob in a Court of Honor ceremony held at the VFW in Mendenhall. Special thanks to Mr. Leo Windham for all his assistance and use of the facility.
Pastor Reggie Chisholm of New Life Christian Academy, where Jacob is a senior, performed the Invocation and the Benediction. Honored guest and Scout leaders in attendance were, Larry Munn, Troop Committee Chairman, Rhuel Dickinson, Scoutmaster, Patricia Poole, ASM, Aleonard Poole, ASM, Brian Kennedy, ASM, George Copeland, ASM.
Lane Steele, Alderman, City of Magee and Chief of Magee Fire Department was the guest speaker and issued challenges to Jacob to continue the path he is on.
As a member of Troop 81, Jacob has held numerous leadership positions. His current position is Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. He has earned 25 Merit Badges and is also a certified BSA Lifeguard.
Jacob has attended Camp Hood as both a participant and staff member. He was inducted into the Sebooney Okasucca Lodge of the Order of the Arrow. And earned Brotherhood Membership.
Jacob also plays, drums, guitar, piano and clarinet.
He is currently enrolled at Copiah Lincoln College to begin his core classes in the fall on his career choice to be a flight trauma nurse.
