Complaints of Suspicious Activity Lead Magee Police to Felony Drug Arrest
Magee Police Nab Magee Man with 74 Grams of Marijuana
Magee police officials were dispatched to the area near Hilton Drive on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, after receiving numerous complaints of suspicious activity, resembling drug transactions in the area.
According to police officials, Officer Joseph Shows responded to the area for saturated patrol when observed a vehicle on the side of the road with several occupants. DUI Officer Shane Fewell arrived on the scene shortly after to assist with the traffic stop investigation.
As officers approached the vehicle, they reportedly detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the automobile. After law enforcers identified the driver as James Darrell Lockhart, of Magee, Officer Shows then asked if there was any marijuana in the vehicle, at which time, Lockhart reached under the driver seat and handed Officer Shows what appeared to be a large amount of cannabis, police also reported.
Magee police confirmed Lockhart was in possession of approximately 74 grams of cannabis, and was subsequently arrested for felony possession of marijuana. Search incident to arrest, police discovered a glass methamphetamine pipe under the driver seat of the vehicle.
Lockhart was charged with felony possession of marijuana, misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine, and DUI other substance.
This case will be presented to the Fall Grand Jury.
