jimmyclydeMany of you know our Magee Mayor plays a trumpet, but did you know he performs in the band called “Uncle Sam”?

The band, “Uncle Sam”, was formed at Ole Miss in 1970.  Over the past 45 years, the band had about 15 to 20 members.  Two members are deceased and some have dropped off from the original band due to other obligations.  The men were young at only 18 to 22 years of age traveling from one gig after another in an old school bus.   The band has played at Ole Miss, Mississippi State, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Vanderbilt, and Georgia as well as many private parties.  Uncle Sam  plays alot of songs like Shake, Rattle, and Roll, and including songs by Chicago.

Our very own Magee Mayor, Jimmy Clyde, has stayed with it.  By the video clip attached to this article, you can tell our mayor loves to entertain and loves the people.   The Uncle Sam Band does not get to play very often due to everyone’s different locations and other responsibilities.  The band members now live from all areas of our country including California, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia and of course a few have stayed close to home in Mississippi.

“Uncle Sam” performed at the 1970 Provine High School Class Reunion located at the Canton Country Club on Saturday night, June 27th after only a few minutes of practice the night before.  One band member stated, “It’s like riding a bike again!!”  Mayor Clyde is a 1968 graduate of Provine High School.

Even though we were not members of the 1970 class reunion, a few of  us Jimmy fans traveled to Canton to hear the band, Uncle Sam.  As a matter of fact, I was not even born when this class graduated in 1970, but the band entertainment was great.  I was actually surprised that I knew several of the songs they performed.

We are keeping our fingers crossed that Magee will  have the opportunity to be blessed with the “Uncle Sam” Band to travel to our great city and perform in the near future!!!!
